Hello, hello 2024
I realise it’s the end of March already AND that I’ve not written to you all since September’s open studios. I’d really like that to change and get back to a more regular communication with you. Not least because I’m cooking up something special that is ONLY going to be offered to newsletter subscribers and, unlike the main content of this email, it doesn’t require you to be local! I really appreciate you being here and sticking with me and this offer, which I’ll be honest isn’t likely to even start until nearer the end of 2024, will be a way for me to say thank you.
NEW: In-person workshops available to book
Last year I decided to do gel plate printing demonstrations at my Open Studios sessions. I had a vague idea that I might develop some workshops. Being a university lecturer for over 10 years, I knew teaching the workshops would not be a challenge.
The challenge is in that marriage between what people want and what I want to offer.
I am passionate about gel plates: such a quick, accessible, tactile method for printing. I also love collage: when you use the gel plate as much as I do you end up with plenty of papers, so it’s a good idea to be able to do something with them!
I have a small space which lends itself perfectly to being able to offer something intimate and bespoke. Come on your own, or let a friend tag along... and I promise you will take away something special. Even if you’ve never used a gel plate in your life. It keeps things interesting for me too: opportunities for me to develop and learn, which is always exciting. Think of these workshops more as a collaboration, not a one way feed.

Quick studio update
I’m doing the 100 day project. My project is #100daysoflimitedpalettecollage and in case you can’t read my crazy hashtag, then I’m using up collections of collage papers I’ve made for previous paintings and projects to make collages with every day. I use a set of papers for 10 days at a time, and I’ll stop when I have 100 collages (in theory). You can follow progress on facebook or instagram
Since my wonderful holiday in Morocco with the equally-wonderful Donna Taylor, I’ve been spending a bit of time finishing the pages in my concertina sketchbook. You can view the flip-through on my youTube channel or a super speedy version on instagram.
Susan Webb and I are exhibiting our favourite paintings full of patterns, pots and plants this coming July at the Three Hares Gallery within the Cowper and Newton Museum in Olney. More details to follow soon...
Bye for now,
Lucy
